5 Lo-fi Surfing Tunes to never surf to

SURF`S UP DUDE

Okay, so we`re landlocked, and no one has ever surfed along the River Aire .. as far as I know.. But it doesn`t mean we northerners dont dig the back - in - vogue surfboard style. We take it down the Lo - fi route, going from Newcastle to Colorado. Some are in the classic 7" pop style and others lean more towards the garage rock way - should be summat for everyone to enjoy. We`d so love to include Leeds very own` Los Pecadores` (We highly recommend them!!) but they haven`t recorded (OR POSTED) anything yet! Dammit! So in the meantime .....

Instrumental fuzz, loud rock from Spain. No links. No Pics. No worries. No, the picture isn`t them, but it is damn cool, nonetheless.

Mowbirds, from Wrexham - fans of Wonderswan (who are on our first album, but alas are no more) give you perfect short songs, fuzz in all the right places, and guitars and vocals that fight for your attention. They`ve played with Neon Indian, Times New Viking, The Jezabels and Dinosaur Pile-Up (good friends of us too - check out their music video shot right here in the studio)

From Newcastle we have Euan Lynn, a one man show of Lo- fi goodness. This release, his latest, is him going in a more punk rock direction, his earlier stuff having more of a reggae flavour. If the Ramones and Suicide got together, they might have made something like this. Recorded on cassette for all your saturated needs.

Not a free track, but a really cool one for you. It`s a bit of classic surf - pop, the cool girl with attitude, the jangle of the guitars and the time honoured tradition of a "Hey, you wanna come to a party?" beach storyline.

Thee Octaves, from Colorado give you, "Partying Fighting". Starts off a bit strangely, in that it doesn`t come across as a surf track until the vocals come in, but then you find yourself listening to a cool pop song - short and sweet and leaving you waiting for more.... I`ve played this three times in a row today. Rad.
