Ben Calvert and the Swifts - The Creatures of Simplicity"

Melancholy story telling, delicate arrangement. A murder in the forest.

A beautiful acoustic folk song, with a beautiful music video to boot. A three piece from the midlands, "the Creatures of Simplicity" came out last year with the download you get one custom made playing card specially made from the video that we`ve included, and a DVD. They are also a part of Boehemian Jukebox, which has for the last five years been putting on live events in Birmingham consisting of acts from all over the world who are signed to folkesque small indie labels, people who are on the more hardcore side of folk, and electronic - based bands that are really suited a more intimate setting but can`t find a place to play amongst the ravers and lazers.

Formed in September 2010, these lot have been the support act to The Jeffrey Lewis & Peter Stampfel Band and have also played to a packed out Birmingham Symphony hall, nay bad for a start off. Check out Festive Road, their current album out on bandcamp, because the quality doesn`t just stop at this single ("Everyone loves Lucy" was made for a summer afternoon in Hyde park). Can`t stress enough how good the lyrical content is, Ben is a natural storyteller.

Bohemian Jukebox happens every 2nd Sunday of the month at the Bull’s Head. Moseley, Birmingham.
