MEN ONLY - "UTAH E.P"

THE FINAL RECORDING FROM LEEDS` INDIE POP TRIO

Ta da! The wait is over and the E.P from Men Only is out!! Refreshingly describes as "glum pop" but it doesn`t half move your feet.It was recorded last year but it`s just out this week. With Pete being with "This Many boyfriends" Opah and Al also part of "The Whatevers" (I`m halfway writing a blog post about them, that`s coming later) things were always good when it came to lyrical storytelling, riffs and hooks - and this EP shows this off in spades.

Another four songs would have made this a really great album, but you`ll just have to do with a really great EP instead! There`s lot`s of catchy melodies, humour and trains of thoughts that makes for a decent collection of songs just itching to be played loud in the sunshine.

Men only had a fondness for booking the last slot of the night, so a lot of times they were the only band in the building, and they always went for Barretts Bunker (the small unassuming child of practice rooms) in the far right corner which from the office (??) gives out a clear enough sound that you can hear everything (again, in a quiet studio around 1am!) They are on our previous Calamity albums, but didn`t get to do a freakout gig for us as planned, downer.

From their facebook page

As many of you will know our friend and bandmate Pete Sykes passed away on Monday. This has been devastating for everyone who knew him and our thoughts are with his family and friends. Anyone that knew Pete would be aware that music was an incredibly important part of his life and we feel privileged to have shared that with him. Pete was both a passionate music fan and songwriter, and his enthusiasm was infectious and had a strong impact on everyone that had the pleasure of making or discussing music with him.

Because Men Only was very much Pete’s band we obviously won’t be continuing with it, however we had just recorded some new songs and now plan to get them mastered and released in some form as a tribute to his talent. Details TBC.

Al, Ben, Clare and Dave

It`s free, but the CD is £4 quid, the artwork was lovingly done by Laura of This Many Boyfriends and a hand-numbered lyric sheet is included too. All recouped profits will go to Amnesty International.

PLAY THE FIRST TRACK "UTAH" REALLY LOUD, YEAH?
