‘A bit of snow won’t kill you,’ I said with a smile, but you just looked away and up to the sky.
‘Oh, what a perfect ending for such a wasted waste of space.... Cold - it’s freezing out here and I’m so goddamn listless.‘
As you stood you laughed and shook your head, found a frozen brick and walked back to your window, and as the shattered glass fell to the sill, I couldn’t help but hope this comes to something someday. Somehow.
We shed our cold damp clothes and ran up to your room, and underneath the sheets our freezing hands met and you said, ‘All we are is all we are.’
A Brand new year, and it`s cold, it`s snowing ... and yet, someone, somewhere was waiting for this moment. Bryan had been for weather like this to release this - his first (non remixing) solo outing on Bandcamp.
With his band Backyards taking a well deserve rest after the high of playing the Leeds/Reading festival last year, he`s been not content to park up creatively and wrote "No Key", playing everything on this recording fusing together skills from his musical collective and from his electronic alter - ego "Brillinger". Combined with a literary approach to lyrics and arranging, the music is warm and yet upbeat - with all instrumentation done by Bryan himself - providing a natural soundtrack to walking homewards in the snow whilst watching the world.
