THE BRITISH SOUND
One of the drawbacks of the 21st century is that the people with the biggest profile in music have no substance to them. On the flipside, you see folks fawning over the rock stars of yesterday, and yet miss out on the next generation because ... they have no idea of their existence. If I drove to Newcastle and turned on the radio, I `d hear the same thing as if I`d driven to Brighton, or Derby or any other town or city of ours. What`s on the radio isn`t too dissimilar to what's on MTV, and when you see what kind of artists who gets the TV slots on programmes, you see the same names OVER and OVER AGAIN.
What`s concerning us, at circus towers, is that this has been going on very nearly a decade. There`s this erasing of culture going on from the nation`s consciousness, replaced by fake R&B singing over every bloody genre and music prescribed by a committee of producers and their middle aged, public schooled backers.
Now of course there are FM radio and internet shows, that work tirelessly to bring new music to the public (and podcasts too).. but the access they have to the general public during the working day .... who: a)are most likely to buy a CD and b) the least likely to search out for music is severely limited. What we`re posting isn`t going to turn the tide.. but it`s a step in the right direction - a multi genre list of what's being made under our noses, on our own doorstep. By no means, do we think that one sound can capture the sound of one city/town .. and neither should you. There is plenty more to come, so if your area isn`t there then, hang on for the next instalment.

Clue Records are also fighting the good fight, trying get the new music out there, spreading the message "that music sounds better with you" rather than music sounds better when it`s been picked by some fopp in London with access to radio one pluggers. There`s podcasts (just reet for a sunday mornings) and downloads so connect up with their Facebook/Twitter feed (find the bloody link yourselves) to make free music much more easier to get to you....
If you had told me in back 1995 that musicians would spend most of the time in the 21st century trying to give stuff away for free I`d would have never, never had believed you. Wow. What a fucked up world this is.
